Ridgeback

Located in Noord Agter Paarl, amongst the Paarl Limietberg Mountains, is the home of Ridgeback Wines. With a boutique farm of 62 hectares and natural, cherished fynbos, this winery was first bought as a fruit farm and transformed into vineyards in 1997. The farm produces two ranges; the premium Ridgeback and entry-level Vansha wines. The first vintage of Vansha Sauvignon Blanc was produced in 2000 and the 2001 Ridgeback Shiraz, which was awarded five stars in the John Platter. The Ridgeback vineyards include the following full bodied red varieties – Shiraz, Merlot, Cabernet, Cabernet Franc, Mourvèdre, Petit Verdot and Grenache; the white varieties include Sauvignon Blanc and Viognier. The wines reflect the character and individuality of the native Rhodesian ridgeback dog that was first used to hunt lions by early pioneers. The modern winery overlooks a small dam and landscaped gardens and has a capacity of 300 tons.
