Domaine St. Pierre
The entire family, including his mother Evelyne, are involved in farming and running the business affairs of the Domaine which currently covers 50 hectare of vines, including a 25 hectares covered by the AOC Côtes-du-Rhône. The entire production of all wines is fewer than 6,000 cases, which speaks to the rigorous farming and selection of fruit for the family’s “estate” wines. This wine shows ripe fruit with a mild tannins, and a hint of minerality from the limestone-rich soils. About this wine producer: In 1972, Jean-Claude Fauque made the first estate-bottled wines at Domaine Saint Pierre in Violès, about fifteen kilometers east of Châteauneuf-du-Pape.Today, his sons Philippe and Jean-François manage the estate. Philippe is responsible for the vineyards, which he works in the discipline of lutte raisonnéee (no herbicides, and no unnecessary chemical treatments), and Jean-François manages the cellar. The grapes are entirely de-stemmed, then fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel, and the wine matures in 40 and 60-hectoliter oak foudres for a full year.
